Doing forming test for oil shale mixture

Share with:

Materials: Oil shale itself is basically a mixture of organic matter (kerogen) and mineral part. Comminuted to that small size as there are particles of both kerogen and mineral matter. In that particular example the organics content is around 40% and the rest is mainly carbonate.
Moisture: 5%
Particle size: <1mm
Initial analysis: Common pressure briquette machine can not do the job, we need to use our high pressure briquette machine—twin-shaft briquette press. (Hydraulic system pressure and twin-shaft driving type)
Testing methods:
1. Pure samples no water:  the materials can be formed into briquettes, but with very low compressive strength, the forming ratio is also not high.

2. samples with 10% water: the materials can be formed into briquettes with better strength. The forming ratio is higher than the first method. People can crumb the briquettes with hands strongly.

3. Samples with 3% binder and 15% water: the formed briquettes are the best. And the forming ratio is high. Note: this binder is just for trying need, no pertinency.

Solution: Based on the materials features, if users insist compressing the materials no water, no binder, that need to use much more super pressure briquette machine. That means the briquette machine cost will increase highly compared the one we are testing now. Investor should balance the profit and investment in this project. Otherwise, investor can consider to choose the technology of adding binder.
