When you lit your charcoal briquettes in a stove, you need to know when they are ready. This is done by obersving that the burning charcoal briquettes have turned white.
Carbon is the principal ingredient in charcoal. Limestone, which contains calcium carbonate, is the ingredient in charcoal that turns charcoal briquette white as it burns. A 2-3% calcium carbonate or lime is necessary, when making charcoal briquettes using
briquette press. Lime, limestone or calcium carbonate are not heat fuels, but they can lower the burning rate such that the charcoal briquettes burn for a longer period but at a reduced fire.
