The technology in using coal briquettes as fuel has been widely used in many countries. Common types of briquette used are coal, peat, charcoal, lignite and biomass materials. Recently, studies show that mixing coal fines and biomass materials can result in an environmentally friendly briquette with better combustion and physical characteristics. This type of briquette is just bio-coal briquette.
Bio-coal briquettes are made from all kinds of biomass materials and coal, which are readily available, cheap and affordable. Researchers make these bio-coal briquettes with different aims and objectives, depending on the issues address. For example, utilizing agricultural waste as an alternative energy to replace fossil fuels that are depleting its reserves, adding coal to biomass in order to add calorific value to bio-coal briquettes, and adding biomass materials to coal to improve its chemical and physical properties.
