The studies show that the composition of the mixtures and particle size influences to the content of briquettes components. Besides, researches show that mixing coal and biomass will result in an environmentally friendly briquettes with better combustion and physical characteristics. In this experiment, briquettes of coal fines and corn cob were produced. The different briquettes samples produced are made by blending various compositions of coal and corn cob, and using bitumen as a binder and calcium hidroxide as the desulphurizing agent. The bio-coal briquettes are produced mechanically using a roller press.
The results of the proximate analysis show that the different compositions of the bio-coal briquettes has reasonable calorific value but that 65% coal: 35% corn cob briquettes with following values for ash content 20%, fixed carbon 45%, moisture content 2.5%, density 0.4g/cm3, volatil matter 32%, porosity index 48%, caloric value 125KJ/kg.
