Quicklime molding equipment is mainly used to press powdered calcium oxide (CaO) into blocks, granules or specific shapes for easy transportation, storage and improved industrial application efficiency.
1. Equipment type and working principle
Roller briquetting machine
- Principle: Quicklime powder is pressed into spherical or pillow-shaped particles by two rollers rotating in opposite directions.
- Applicable scenarios: Small and medium-sized production requirements, suitable for molding products that do not require high strength.
- Advantages: Simple structure, low energy consumption, suitable for continuous production.
Hydraulic briquetting machine
- Principle: Use hydraulic system to provide high pressure to press powder into high-density blocks.
- Applicable scenarios: Metallurgical industry (such as steelmaking and slag making), requiring high mechanical strength and low crushing rate.
- Advantages: High molding density and excellent product strength.
2. Key process parameters
Raw material characteristics
- Particle size: Usually 80-200 mesh powder is required, too coarse or too fine will affect the molding effect.
- Water content: Generally, it needs to be controlled at 1%-5%. If it is too high, it will easily lead to hydrolysis exotherm. If it is too low, a binder needs to be added.
Binder selection
- Inorganic: cement, water glass (improve high temperature resistance, but may affect purity).
- Organic: starch, polyvinyl alcohol (environmentally friendly, but the cost is high).
- No binder: Relying on high-pressure physical molding, the equipment pressure must be ≥50MPa.
Post-processing process
- Curing: Natural drying or low-temperature drying (avoid high temperature causing CaO and CO₂ to react to form CaCO₃).
- Cooling: Prevent the block from cracking due to residual heat.
3. Key points of equipment selection
- Capacity requirements: small equipment (1-5 tons/hour), medium (5-20 tons/hour), large (more than 20 tons).
- Forming strength: The compressive strength of metallurgical blocks must be ≥10MPa, which can be appropriately reduced in the field of environmental protection.
- Corrosion-resistant design: Parts in contact with quicklime must be made of 304 stainless steel or surface hardened.
- Automation level: PLC control system can realize accurate pressure regulation and fault diagnosis.
4. Common problems and solutions
- Breakable after molding
- Reason: Insufficient pressure or too low moisture.
- Countermeasure: Adjust hydraulic pressure to 60-100MPa, or add 1%-3% moisture/binder.
- Severe equipment wear
- Reason: Abrasiveness of quicklime.
- Countermeasure: Use tungsten carbide coated roller surface or replace mold regularly.
- Dust pollution
- Countermeasure: Equipped with pulse bag dust collector and sealed conveying system.
